HOW OFTEN ARE SESSIONS SCHEDULED?

You can schedule your sessions to meet your needs and particular situation. Often individuals find that initially once weekly, or at times twice weekly, sessions are helpful until they see an improvement in their situation.  If needed, crisis appointments are available on a limited basis.

Is what I talk about Confidential?

Yes—what you say in Kim’s office stays in her office, within the limits of the law. Clients are protected by privacy regulations set forth by HIPAA.

HOW Long does therapy take?

Therapy sessions are about 50-55 minutes long. How long you stay in therapy, whether it is 6 weeks, or six months, or longer, is entirely your choice and varies based on the client’s needs. We will work together to determine the best course of treatment for you.

What are the typical issues that you treat with therapy?

It can be any number of concerns that might lead someone to seek support from psychotherapy. The most common challenges that are seen are struggles with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, martial problems, job dissatisfaction, family problems or difficulties with stress management.

What treatment modalities do you use?

Kim’s approach is eclectic and varies based on the client’s goals and individualized needs. The core treatment modalities are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), insight oriented approaches, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Couple’s therapy, and Family Systems based approaches.

WHAT'S YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to miss an appointment, Kim requires at least 24 hours of notice of cancellation. If for any reason you do not provide 24 hours’ notice, you will be charged a $75 fee for your appointment. Payment is due at the time of your session.

DO YOU PRESCRIBE MEDICATIONS?

Kim is not a psychiatrist or a medical doctor. If it is determined together that medications may be an option for you, Kim will provide referrals for qualified psychiatrists and help coordinate care with that provider. However, the choice to pursue medication is at the discretion of the client.

What is a licensed clinical social worker?

Kim is a psychotherapist who is a Board Certified Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). An LCSW is authorized to independently practice clinical social work in Illinois. To become an LCSW, a social worker must receive a master’s degree in social work from a state approved graduate program, successfully complete at least 3,000 hours of satisfactory, supervised clinical professional experience after receiving a master’s degree in social work, and pass the authorized examination for the practice of social work as a licensed clinical social worker.
